About Sanders Family Christmas
Sanders Family Christmas brings the Sanctified Sanders Family Singers back to the Little Opry Theatre inside Branson's IMAX Entertainment Complex to celebrate the holidays with faith, family, and old-fashioned fun, mornings at 10:00 AM from November 3 through December 19. It is Christmas Eve 1941. The Depression is ending, but 18 days after Pearl Harbor the threat of war has just begun, and the Smoke on the Mountain family is about to say a bittersweet goodbye to their only son, who is shipping out with the Marine Corps. Before he goes, the Sanders Family Singers lead the annual Christmas celebration at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Reverend Mervin Oglethorpe and the family, Burl and Vera, the twins Dennis and Denise, June who signs instead of sings, and Uncle Stanley, raise the spirits of their faithful flock, which is you, in a rousing, hilarious, and heartwarming gospel sing-along of cherished carols and Christmas hymns. Conceived by Alan Bailey and written by Connie Ray, it is the nostalgic sequel to Smoke on the Mountain.

More About Sanders Family Christmas
Christmas Eve 1941 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church
Sanders Family Christmas is the holiday sequel to Smoke on the Mountain, and it is the Little Opry Theatre's Christmas tradition. Conceived by Alan Bailey and written by Connie Ray, it picks up the Sanctified Sanders Family Singers on Christmas Eve 1941, 18 days after Pearl Harbor, as they lead the annual Christmas celebration at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. The audience is the faithful flock, and the family is there to raise its spirits.
Among Branson Christmas shows, this is the one with a story. Big production Christmas shows fill the strip in November and December; this one fills a 210-seat room inside Branson's IMAX Entertainment Complex with carols, comedy, and a family you come to care about. Sanders Family Christmas Branson tickets for 2026 are on the calendar above, mornings at 10:00 AM from November 3 through December 19.
Carols, Comedy, and a Bittersweet Goodbye
The whole family is back: Burl and his Scripture-quoting wife Vera, the twins Dennis and Denise, their sister June who signs instead of sings, Uncle Stanley, and Reverend Mervin Oglethorpe, who still works part time at the pickle plant. The Depression is ending and the war is beginning, and the family's only son is shipping out with the Marine Corps as soon as the celebration ends.
That goodbye gives the show its heart, but the evening at church is a rousing, hilarious gospel sing-along first. The cast plays cherished Christmas hymns and carols live, the comedy comes from the same quirks that made Smoke on the Mountain a favorite, and by the end the congregation is singing along whether it planned to or not. Plan on about two hours with an intermission.
Holiday Mornings at the Little Opry Theatre
Sanders Family Christmas plays at the Little Opry Theatre, 3562 Shepherd of the Hills Expy, Branson, MO 65616. The 2026 run is November 3 through December 19 at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, including Thanksgiving morning. There is no show December 8 or 15, and Wednesdays in those weeks belong to Smoke on the Mountain, so check the calendar above for your date.
A 10:00 AM Christmas show is easy to build a day around. You are out by noon, McFarlain's is in the same building for lunch, and the afternoon and evening are free for Silver Dollar City's lights or an evening show on the strip. Parking is free in the IMAX lot, and 20 to 30 minutes early is plenty for a theater this size.
